Sigrún Stella is an Icelandic/Canadian singer-songwriter. Born in Winnipeg, Sigrún Stella grew up in Iceland and now calls both countries her home. Influenced by artists such as Brandi Carlile, Mazzy Star, and Joni Mitchell, her music is moody and intelligent, with strong folk and jazz influences framing a powerful but sensitive voice.
Sigrún Stella has been nominated for vocalist of the year at “Hlustendaverðlaunin” (People’s Choice Awards) in Iceland where her song Sideways has made it to number one. Her music has achieved extensive radio play in Iceland as well as on the CBC and CKUA In Canada. Most recently, Sideways has been included on the Starbucks Acoustic Playlistwhich has garnered broad exposure and attention.
In addition to playing her own shows, Sigrún Stella has opened up for such artists as, Of Monsters and Men, Lay Low, Kinnie Starr, and Svavar Knútur. While writing her own music, Sigrún Stella is engaged in a number of collaborations including with UK artist Etherwood and Bulgarian/Canadian composer Todor Kobakov.
Music by Sigrún Stella has been placed in numerous feature films including The Saver, which has been nominated for Canadian film industry awards. Her songs also appear in the feature film Stay, The Cardinal (Canadian tv series), Jump Darling, and Sisterhood (Icelandic tv series). Sigrún Stella also works as a songwriter with Hospital Records, Songs in The Key of Knife, in the UK.
